We decided to have two
parties for our sweetheart. We love having outdoor parties, at the
park or at Grandpa's farm, but February is just not the month for
these types of get-togethers in the great Pacific NorthWET. So, we
opted for two parties just simply due to space constraints. We had a
small party at our house ON Bailey's Birthday (aka Valentine's Day).
We invited the grandparents, aunts & uncles. We decided on an
evening party and had lasagna dinner w/salad and garlic cheesebread.
YUM.
Nothing really exciting,
just lots of chatter and watching the birthday girl. She opened her
presents (thanks to everyone - she has lots of neat things to play
with now) and had a cake all to herself. Took her awhile to really
get into it. She's not a fan of solid food really, so I wasn't sure
if she'd ever eat more than a few licks of frosting. As if any
baby's can pass up a cake and frosting on their first birthday.
It's almost like THE
celebration of a lifetime, the first birthday. Babies get to feed
their face like they never have before, usually getting an entire
cake to feast on. I don't know about the rest of the babies in the
world, but Bailey had never come close to experiencing anything like
this. We all gathered around her high chair, intently watching her
finger by finger poke at the frosting. Look at us, waiting to see
how we felt about it. "Is this really okay, Mommy and Daddy?" LOL.
After a few pokes and us cheering her on (GO Bailey). Now when on
earth would a parent cheer their child on to such a crazy cake mess
except on their first birthday! So finally she gets a good taste of
that sweet goodness and within 10 minutes she's stuffed her face so
full of cake she looked like she'd be giving it all back to us at
any moment.
So that was fun.... then
Sunday, the 15th, we had invited extended family (cousins), David's
grandparents and our friends. Not many could make it so we almost
cancelled, but then after two RSVPs we decided to go ahead with it.
It was a Chuck E Cheese party. Not really for Bailey of course, just
didn't want to entertain in our tiny house another day. But we had a
good time. Aunt Myndi, Brian and Crystal (Brittney and Connor), Rick
and Michele and Grandma Lisa (and Kahele) all came along. We had
nummy pizza and cupcakes and the kids played themselves silly.
The secret to this day was
for me just to keep busy. My last baby girl turned one. It was hard
for me. It's hard to see my kids growing up so quickly... but now
that the day has come and passed, I'm okay.
Happy Birthday My Sweet Valentine Girl! I love you! |
