Soap
Crayons

Supplies:
1 c. Soap Flakes
Food Coloring
2 TBSP Hot Water
Directions:
Have one large bowl and several
small bowls, one for each color. You will also need an ice
cube tray with different sections, or containers to act as
small molds.
Put soap flakes in a large bowl
and drop the hot water into the soap flakes, stirring
constantly. The mixture will be extremely thick and hard to
stir.
Spoon some of the soap into each
of the small bowls and color each separately, adding the color
by drops until the soap has the consistency of a very thick
paste.
Press spoonfuls of the soap into
your molds and set the crayons in a dry place to harden. They
should take a few days to a week to dry completely.
When dry, remove from the molds
and allow to dry a few more days before using. Yield: 20
Crayons.

2 cups soap flakes or grated soap
1 gallon water
1/4 - 1/2 cup glycerin
2 cups shampoo or liquid body wash
Scented oil of your choice (optional)
Directions:
Mix the soap flakes, water and 2
tbsp glycerin in a pot and set over low heat, stirring
occasionally until the soap has dissolved. (This liquid soap
can be stored in a covered container and used as an
all-purpose soap or hand soap in the kitchen.) In a bowl, add
2 cups of this mixture to the rest of the glycerin, shampoo
and add a few drops of your scented oil. Put into a quart
container and store covered at room temperature. When you're
ready to bathe, add about one cup to your tub as it's filling.

Magic
Bubble Solution

Supplies:
1 cup Joy or Dawn
2 cups WARM water
3 tablespoon Glycerin
1/2 teaspoon Sugar
Directions:
Mix together and store in an air
tight container. Ideas for items to use for the "bubble
blowers": plastic strawberry basket, colander, plastic six
pack holder, funnel, plastic straw cut on a slant, tape
several straws together, paper cup with a hole punched in the
bottom will make giant bubbles.
Tips:
Add a couple
of drops of washable paint to solution to make colored
bubbles, blow them on white paper and it makes a pretty
picture!
You can buy Glycerin and most drug
stores. It's fairly inexpensive. It really makes the bubbles
work and is actually used in several of our KITK (Kids In The
Kitchen) recipes!
Make solution a day ahead of time,
it works better when it has time to sit!

Goop
(OOZE)

Supplies:
1 cup Cornstarch
1-2 drops Food Coloring (optional)
1/2 cup Water
Newspapers
Measuring Cup
Large Bowl
Directions:
Cover your work area with
newspapers. Put cornstarch in large bowl. Add 1-2 drops of
food coloring if using. Add water slowly, mixing the
cornstarch until all of the powder is wet. Keep adding water
until this mixture looks like a liquid when you stir it
slowly. The ooze is just right when it won't splash out of the
bowl. Tap lightly on the surface with your finger or spoon. If
it is too wet add more cornstarch; too dry, add more water.
Try to pick up the resulting "liquid". It feels like a solid
until you open your hand and then it will slip through your
fingers.

Gack
aka Splat aka Slime
Supplies:
2 TBSP Glue
2 TBSP Water
Food Coloring (optional)
Borax
Water
Directions:
Mix together 1/8 cup of Borax and
2 cups of water and heat them over medium heat in a small pot
on the stove and stir until they are dissolved, or mix them
together in a microwaveable container and on 70% power heat
them for 2 to 3 minutes until dissolved ; stirring every 30
seconds. After the mixture is dissolved remove it from its
heat source and set it aside. Mix together in an old cup 1/4
cup of White Glue and 1/4 cup of water, stir until well
combined. Into the baggy pour the White Glue/Water mixture and
add 2 TBS of the Borax/Water solution. Add a drop (or more) of
food coloring. Close the bag well, removing as much air as
possible. Knead until the SLIME has formed. Store in old oleo
tubs sealed with lids. Do not let this get on rugs or fabric
because food coloring STAINS!
Helpful Hints:
It is much easier to fill the
baggies with the liquids if you line a standing tumbler with
the baggie first. Leave an inch or so of the baggie folded
over the rim of the tumbler to prevent the liquids from
spilling inside the cup when they are being poured in. Also,
have an adult supervise and/or help with the heating process.
SLIME is never fun when someone gets hurt when making it.
Finally, try to use non-breakable containers so there is no
chance of breaking any glass.
